Pathways to optimal health
Nutrigenomics – DNA gene testing for health
By doing a simple once-only saliva test, you can discover your DNA blueprint and learn how well your genes are matched to your present diet and lifestyle, as well as how you can unlock the full potential of your current and future health and wellness. By assessing your genetic profile I can help you to optimise your diet and lifestyle to ‘switch off’ or down-regulate genes that have the potential to cause harm and ‘switch-on’ or up-regulate the genes that help to prevent poor health. This is one of the most wholistic ways to view your own health potential and one of the most exciting ways for me to support you with preventative measures.
Cardiovascular profile
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. In the past decade CVD has been the cause of over one-third of all premature deaths in Australia. Typipcal risk factors for CVD include hypertension, dyslipidemia, smoking and diabetes mellitus. However, in an individual the presence of only one of these factors has a low positive predictive value. The most advanced strategy for coronary risk assessment is therefore to combine the information of several risk factors; a ‘multi-marker’ approach which enhances risk stratification. In this blood sample test, not only are conventional risk factors assessed, but other CVD biomarkers such as lipoprotein (a), apolipoproteins A & B, homocysteine, fibrinogen and C-reactive protein (CRP) are included.
Hair tissue mineral analysis (HTMA)
HTMA is a safe and non-invasive laboratory test using a small sample of your hair. It measures the levels and comparative ratios of nutrient and toxic minerals found in hair. Occupational or environmental exposure to heavy metals and other chemicals can lead to these elements building up in the tissues and this test gives an insight into these potential influences. This valuable information is often not revealed through conventional blood or urine tests.
Omega- 3- Index
The Omega-3 Index is actually two things. Most important, it is a risk factor for heart disease, just like cholesterol. But it is also an actual test you can take to assess your omega-3 status. This simple skin-prick test enables quick and accurate testing of your blood levels which can be helpful in supporting the management of several health conditions. Low omega-3 levels are associated with a multitude of health issues such as heart disease, cognitive decline, skin conditions, depression, chronic inflammatory conditions and much more.
Bioimpedance body composition analysis
I am part of a small group of Healthcare Professionals who have received extensive training in Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) which is a quick, safe and non-invasive screening of the body to ascertain body composition and cellular health.
This information can help to direct your treatment and aid your weight management and health goals. The scan measures biomarkers of health, including muscle, fat and energy production. These biomarkers will tell you many things about your health including body fat levels, energy, toxicity, inflammation and response to treatment.
Determine if part of your weight is in fact fluid and how you can improve fluid balance. Discover your lean tissue levels and if you need to gain muscle tissue, whilst losing fat and fluid.
Heamtology screening test
This live blood screening that supports naturopathic assessment of your case by looking at the shape, size and condition of your blood cells as well as the ratio and type of white blood cells specifically. Uisna microscope and digital capturing technology one or two drops of blood are displayed on a monitor screen and assessed for their appearance and structure in real time while you are watching. Through viewing of your live blood your Hemaview™ practitioner may be able to develop more effective support plans for your personal health. Seeing your cells in this way is also incredibly revealing and motivating for many people. It does not replace standard laboratory blood tests, but can be motivating for you and valuable for directing your treatment. As a screening tool, it can help determine signs of inflammation, nutritional requirement, oxidative stress and cellular damage, immune system activity and liver stress or detoxification needs.
